Triathlon 101

The Triathlon 101 Program is an introductory course to the world of triathlons by helping any beginning participant complete a Sprint Triathlon in 7 weeks. This class is also appropriate for experienced sprint triathletes that want extra coaching for improved performance. It will be a complete cross-training program developed to help you finish a 400 yard swim, 11 mile bike ride and a 5K (3.1 miles) run. Our goal race is the Tri For Fun Sprint Triathlon on June 18, 2016 at Shadow Cliffs Regional Park. This 7-week training program will put an emphasis on creating a fun, comfortable and motivating atmosphere for learning how to improve your swimming, biking and running skills, and how to put it all together for the triathlon. Tri 101 Training Program Details:

Group Workouts: 

  • Tuesday: Track workouts at Pleasanton Middle School, 6:30pm
  • Wednesday: Pool swim workouts at San Ramon Olympic Pool & Aquatic Center, 9900 Broadmoor Drive, San Ramon, 7pm-8pm
  • Saturday: Bike/run workouts at Fleet Feet, 8:00am
  • Optional Open Water Practices (2 sessions): Saturday June 11 8AM and Wednesday June 15 at 6:00pm at Shadow Cliffs Regional Park

Program Dates:

  • Program dates: Tuesday, May 3 - Saturday, June 18, 2016
  • Goal race is the Tri For Fun #1 at Shadow Cliffs Regional Park, Saturday, June 18
    • Race distances are 400 yard lake swim, 11 mile bike ride, 3.1 mile run

Tri 101 Training Program Participants Receive:

Tri 101 Training Requirements:

  • Must be comfortable with face in the water
  • Must be able to freestyle swim 25 yards without stopping
  • Able to bike 5 miles on the road comfortably
  • Able to run/walk 1 mile
  • Currently working out 3 times per week or more

Mandatory First Swim Workout: May 4, 7PM at San Ramon Olympic Pool & Aquatic Center. What to expect: A 100 yard (or 50 yard) timed swim will be conducted to determine swim skills. Based on your time and skill level, Coach Ethan will assign you to either Swim 101 or Swim 201, and swim lanes so you are with similar skill levels. 

Maximum Participants: 8 (Swim-only class joins us in pool)

Meet the Coach: Coach Ethan Falls has been a competitive runner and triathlete for 20+ years with a lifelong passion for healthy living. He is a USA Triathlon Level 1 certified coach and has competed in 3 Ironman distance triathlons.
